San Diego Classics
Padres at Petco Park & Gaslamp Quarter: August is baseball season so why not catch a Padres game at the newly redone Petco Park? Take the Pacific Surfliner train from North County and bar hop the gaslamp quarter before the game. 7/30 NY Mets 1:10pm, 8/1 St. Louis Cardinals 6:40pm, and 8/3 St. Louis Cardinals 1:10pm.
San Diego Zoo: The Zoo is famous for a reason and the giant pandas are BACK (see, Giant Panda Cam).
Balboa Park: A great place to walk around. From historic landmarks and gardens to a wide variety of arts, culture, and history museums, this gorgeous park has something for everyone.
La Jolla: Downtown La Jolla is picture perfect. Eat, drink, shop, and smell the seals down by the cove.
San Diego Botanic Garden: Established in 1970, San Diego Botanic Garden is a 37-acre urban oasis. The Garden's four miles of trails display more than 5,000 plant species and varieties.

Taco Tour
Care to take a taco tour of San Diego? Check out some of our favorites:
Rudy’s Taco Shop (Solana Beach or La Costa locations): We recommend their fish tacos or shredded chicken burrito. The Solana Beach location is a great starting point if you wish to make your way up the coast to our other recommendations in Encinitas.
The Taco Stand (Encinitas or La Jolla locations): We like to think of The Taco Stand as “California fresh” Mexican food. You can’t go wrong with a carne asada burrito or a grilled fish taco. If you are really ready to splurge, however, Cam loves a California Burrito (as pictured above).
Juanita’s Taco Shop (Encinitas): A true mom-n-pop spot. The carnitas tacos are a bright spot at this authentic hole-in-the-wall and family favorite.
Oscar’s Mexican Seafood (Pacific Beach): If your find yourself closer to downtown San Diego, it might be time to check out Oscar’s and get your hands on a smoked fish or grilled shrimp taco. Still hungry? Head into La Jolla and stop at The Taco Stand before walking down to La Jolla Cove to see (and smell) the famous seals.

North County Hikes
Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve: Torrey Pines is one of the most popular State Parks in San Diego. Park at either the South Beach or North Beach Lot. General admission daily use is $10-20 per vehicle depending on park demand, so we recommend carpooling. You can make this seaside hike as short or long as you wish, up to 6 miles.
Annie’s Canyon Trail (San Elijo Lagoon) via Solana Hills Trail: If you are looking for a longer route start at the La Orilla Trailhead off of El Camino Real. Otherwise feel free to park at the San Elijo Activity Hub Park & Ride and make your way to the slot canyon. This trail is an out and back, with many entrance and parking options depending on how far you wish to go. 1-8 miles out and back. Treat yourself to a VG’s Donut in Cardiff when you’re done.
Solana Beach to Del Mar via Dog Beach: Park at Solana beach and enter at Fletcher Cove Beach Park, head south to hit Dog Beach (where puppies run free) and continue on to Del Mar. When you hit Sea Grove Park, venture up 15th street to explore downtown Del Mar, grab a coffee or brunch. About 5 miles out and back.
Rancho Santa Fe Trails: If you are staying at the Inn at Rancho Santa Fe or near the Weindling’s home, hop on the winding network of horse trails in RSF (pictured above). Entrances can be found all over, so feel free to reach out to Barbara and Danielle for directions or access to a trail map if you wish to start your hike in the Weindling’s neighborhood.

North County Beaches
If you are looking for a beach day we recommend heading to Solana Beach. It’s relatively easy to find parking along N. Highway 101 and enter at Fletcher Cove Beach park. This park has bathrooms and showers, which makes it great for large groups planning to camp out all day.
If you find yourself up near Encinitas and Leucadia, try Moonlight or South Ponto Beach.

North County "Schpatzing"
Schpatz – noun (informal • “Yiddish”): A Weindling-ism for window shopping, drinking coffee, and buying things your probably don’t need.
Cedros Avenue, Solana Beach: The “design” district of North County. Lots of home goods, boutiques, and gift-giving “stuff-stores” for all the cute small things.
Encinitas 101 Main Street: Downtown Encinitas has it all. Tacos, shopping, coffee, and plenty of bars.
Del Mar Village: Similar to Encinitas, Del Mar has a wide variety of restaurants, bars, and shops to keep you busy. Beware, however, August is racetrack season and this area can get quite busy.

Golf & Disc Golf Courses
Torrey Pines Golf Course: The nation's foremost municipal golf course situated atop cliffs towering above the Pacific Ocean. A perfect pre-wedding activity, just remember to book your tee time well in advance.
Kit Carson DGC: Embedded in a public park, this course is approachable for newcomers with its open fairways, while being long enough at 5979 feet to challenge experienced players alike. If you want bragging rights, try to beat Cam’s best round at -2. No cost to play. 4.4 stars on UDisc.
Morley Field DGC: Prefer a slightly shorter, more technical round? Look no further than the most played course in the US in 2023. At 5271 feet, this track is well-maintained and well-loved. Consider making a tee time before showing up; $5 weekday, $7 weekend. Wanna play but need discs? The on-site pro shop rents them out. 4.5 stars on UDisc.
